I do have a homepage, my preferred way of creating content on the internet but ok, I'll blog ;-)
Yesterday I got to meet paralympic world record athlete April Holmes (100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter womens record holder). I'm sure her "up and at 'em" speach was practiced and what she does as a motvational speaker but it touched me.
So even in the midst of a remodel I will be getting back to training.
It is hard to train when the kitchen looks like this. Gotta love trying to fix that recovery meal.

I took a break from the remodel and got to the dojo today. Even though it's been weeks since I've trained I felt good. Pat's extremely patient with me, I just don't seem to be able to get the boken all the way dropped back.
After the work out, responsibility. Off to the harware store to check out and price counters and windows.
Also sold the Raleigh Sprite 27 today to a guy who plans to remodel it and install an internal hub. This cleared the patio and will provide this man with either hours of enjoyment .... or frustration as he fixes the bike. One more bike on the road

My feeling about carbon offsets is why do them if my own life-style needs revising. Today I ordered dual pane windows at Sincere Hardware in Oakland. I can't believe I did not do this before but better late than never.
I had a near comical experience trying to order at a box store, Home Depot. I normally would never go to one but they seemed to offer the best price. After that experience of being shunted back and forth, the classic bit of seeing help in the store and having them run the other way.... back I went to Sincere.
Now in about 2 weeks I'll be dual pane.
I have a color/design challenge. The DW is this years brushed stainless, range and over the hood micro (which is new but re-purposed off Crags) are white with some black and the fridge is black. The new LG washer drier is white with a bit of brushed stainless.
Trying to make tha match, oy.
Tomorrow I plan to bike to work.

I rode to work and like a drive where your timing is just on I hit every green light on the way in. On arrival though I found out a friend and her partner had been hit by a car over the weekend. They were just out for a leisurly ride, doing everything right, the driver has been charged. The driver was clearly recless, admits recent drug use, distracted driving, witnesses clocked her well over the speed limit and volating traffic laws.
I'm lucky that my friends survived and that's perhaps besides luck because they are both super-fit. This is not very New-agey or pleasant but I hope they throw the book at the driver and that she serves the max.
I felt very cautious on the way home. An important reminder. With the price of gas rising in the US there are lots of new riders out there. M. and L. are not one of those newbies. But whether you're riding, driving or walking .... let's be careful out there.
Wanted to add a general statement of purpose. My homepage is a project I've worked on for years, has more about me, probably too much ;-) If you want to see it contact me, I've decided not to link it here. Not that there's anything wrong with it, just a lot about my family, family history, siblings, a bio of my paternal granparents ....
I'm always updating it but it's a little unorganized right now. So this blog I think of as a draft about being an athlete over 50 (yikes! How'd that happen? When?) being mindful of the planet and daily life. It's also about balancing what seems like an all consuming project (a remodel) and being an athlete. This will include I'm sure thoughts about innexpensive (because I'm basicly poor) ways to reduce ones carbon footprint.
